bulletYes, you can improve your gas mileage by 25, 50 or 100%.

bulletYes, it can be done in a day and cost less than $200 total.

Converting your car today to use water as fuel does work. It also takes work. Even though it's work that supposedly anyone can do, (and the fact that I've built one I think is good proof of that) we don't all learn how to do things the same way. Some of us either don't want to, or don't have the time to do it ourselves.

You know how much help you need with mechanical work better than anyone else. That's why we've chosen not to rate these products as "good, better, best" or assign arbitrary stars. If you're going to be successful, you need match yourself to the right guide based on how much information detail you want or technical support you need. Even if you need to find somewhere to buy the assembled devices and someone else to install it, you can still recoup your costs and start saving money on gas within a couple of months.

Their whole product package is busy (messy really) and colorful, and the current number one seller. Their chaotic looking website is bursting at the seams, and so are the two books totaling more than 300 pages of information and insight that it offers currently for $97.00. And that's before you count the additional bonus books that show how to extend the technology to other things besides your car, SUV or truck. This truly is the most comprehensive library of practical information and experience on this topic you will find anywhere.

Aside from an somewhat hype filled appearance, I do have one substantive problem with the website. On the page you'll find a claim that you can claim a deduction from the IRS for doing this conversion. While the IRS did offer a deduction to buyers of new hybrid cars, those deductions were phased out when unit sales ceilings were reached. The deduction never did specifically cover after-market conversions. While Ozzie Freedom does say he is going to claim the deduction, and he urges you to also, I would advise you to seek legal advice before doing that. Passion for your subject is great, but...

Also... beware of cheap imitators! There is one web imitator who has copied this messy website and only changed the name. He is selling his "product" for about half the Water4Gas product BUT, when you buy the product, you WILL NOT receive the Water4Gas books. You will only receive a very old public domain water kit guide. Nor will you be entitled to any technical support.

The real Water4Gas book set is not a "quick and dirty" checklist or ready-to-go kit. The books provide diagrams, and part numbers, and places to buy the items as well as how to install them in five different ways. Each one builds on the last, allowing you to do just what you are comfortable doing.

One mechanic likened this system to the racing world's "alcohol injection kit" that's been available at three times the $150-200 total cost you'll spend on the Water 4 Gas books and parts. The books are available in a membership area online that allows the company to easily update the information. The "marketplace" listing all their suppliers as well as individuals who will do an installation for you is also there.

At first I didn't understand why they offered five different ways to approach hydrogen generation devices. I wondered why anyone wouldn't just jump in and create the one that's going to give you the best increase in mpgs. Then I built one. I discovered that even after that, even though I'm very happy with my results, someone, somewhere in the marketplace is going to find a way to make it better. And I want to know that too.

Anyone can follow along and build any of the "basic" systems netting you a 15-20% or 25-50% increase in gas mileage. The key phrase there is -- follow along. The first kit you build should be an exact duplicate of the plans and parts as provided. Then, as your confidence in your own manufacturing skills grows, you can continue to expand the system at your own pace, and practice some of the techniques they teach, to further push your mileage gains above 100%.

After you purchase, if you find you need support, you'll get access to their resource list. Or, if you live in the Los Angeles area, you're invited to meet Ozzie and his growing band of Water4Gas enthusiasts (now routinely in the 100s each week) at their weekly rally.

Let's get one thing clear from the start. Even though the title is "run your car with water" many people think you're converting your car from gasoline to water fuel. No. You are going to be creating and installing a device that converts water to HHO gas that is then injected into your system to mix with your gas to improve the burn efficiency.

Whew. If that's just the right amount of science for you, then this is the right product for you. This product is a stripped down blueprint of how to build a hydrogen-on-demand unit...period. The device you'll create with this is essentially the same as one of the devices you can build from the Water4Gas program. In many ways it looks like a heavily edited version of it where everything but the nuts and bolts of completing the conversion have been stripped out. That simplicity and directness can be a real plus for many. It's shorter 90 page length and lower current sales price of $49.97 are it's real pluses. I caution you not to believe the website where they claim the price is $297 and could return there anytime...at least it hasn't for months and months and months.....

Run Your Car With Water approaches the subject from a strictly practical standpoint with no theory or other discussion. If all you want to do is build and put the hydrogen conversion unit into place, this is your most economical alternative. There is no support offered from the company; no follow-up tricks, techniques or user experiences to show you how to maximize your gas mileage. My best advice here is take your time and follow every step of the plan precisely. If it calls for 5/32" tubing, don't think that 1/4" will do. The second device you assemble, or the third is a better one to improvise on.

If you can follow instructions then you should have no difficulty with this. Just take it slow and FOLLOW those directions, in order. Don't jump around thinking you can save time if you cut this while you wait for the glue to dry on that. If you do run in to questions, you can always ask the hundreds of people who have successfully completed their conversions in the Yahoo "Run Your Car With Water" group.

There's a lot of confidence to be shared when you're talking about the company that boasts of having done more than 1,400 water to fuel conversions starting with their own nearly 15 years ago. Neil and Sam Prendergrast are the creators of the Water Fuel Expert. Neil used to race cars as a hobby and when found out about using water to boost performance and started tweaking the system to make it their own.

Their no-nonsense or theory guide is a very affordable $47.00 and was completely updated in May, 2008. The parts list they recommend can be purchased for $100 or less in most parts of the US, making this one of the most economical alternatives available today. It is also written squarely for the person who does not know anything about cars.

Blind faith is called for here though. For example, as a complete neophyte, I have to no frame of reference to determine whether my tubing was a snug enough fit or not. I bought the size they said, I put it on the way they said, and I moved on. If you're the type of person who needs to know "why" or starts to think "it would be better if I did it this way" then you're going to have more fun with the Water4Gas system. But even if you are that sort of person, if you don't have a lot of time, and just want to put one together "by the book" first, this is a good book.

Because this is now their full time living, the brothers are still offering telephone and email support for users while installing their systems. With demand exploding along with gas prices, how much longer they'll be able to do so is anyone's guess.

Each of the companies we recommend back their claim that anyone can complete a conversion regardless of their experience (or lack) with a full 60 day money back guarantee. BUT, some of us may not want to learn how, or may not have the time.

One approach recommended by both these companies is to purchase a guide, then take it to your favorite mechanic to install. Ozzie Freedom of Water4Gas says, "I found that auto mechanics are very interested in this technology and most of them are willing to install it when written instructions and support are given to them." (Their guides also include valuable maintenance information; not just the installation plans.)

Both the Water 4 Gas and Water Fuel Experts companies will assist their customers with finding installers. They do not make promises, and they do not set prices for installers. However, Water4Gas maintains an online "marketplace" of all it's suppliers available after purchase. Water Fuel Experts also maintain a list of people who offer the service and they will try and match you with someone in your area.

We did the shopping, wading through a growing field of copycats and ripped-off products to find those that offer different approaches, depth of information or additional resources. All of them are real companies, with real people who have actually done hydrogen conversions themselves.
